Packing for birth at hospital

Packing for birth at hospital
15 April 2022 by Natalie Rodley-Haines

Wondering what you should be packing for birth at hospital.  We are here to help with some ideas and tips.  It’s a good idea to have your bag packed several weeks before your due, just in case you need to go in early.

Packing for birth at hospital

Toiletries

Make sure you pack things like a hairbrush, toothpaste & toothbrush, facewash.  Not forget hairbands if you’re likely to need them.  Hairbands are forever disappearing so pack a few.  Bring your favorite body wash and hair products.

Nursing bra

If you want to breastfeed it is a good idea to pack a nursing bra or two.  You will probably want to be wearing one under your gown or on the way home from the hospital.

Snacks and money

Make sure you put some of your favorite snacks in the bag (we all know what hospital food can be like)  Pop some extra in there for your partner too.

It is also a good idea to have some money in your bag to use with the vending machines or the food cart.

Going home outfit

For both you and your little one.   Make sure for yourself you choose something that’s going to be comfy and stretchy.  As your bump will mostly likely still be there when you leave.

Phone charger

It is probably worth buying a spare charger and keeping that in the hospital bag.  If you have to rush you will probably not think to unplug your charger from its regular place.

Hopefully, you will in and out of the hospital quickly, but it is good to be able to charge your phone and get hold of people.  You may also want to capture some photos with it.
